Sheepdrove Burial Wood, Lambourn Downs, Berkshire

Sheepdrove Burial Wood is situated within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, high up on the ancient Lambourn Downs in a peaceful, rural setting.

Sheepdrove’s natural burial ground is a deciduous woodland, planted with native trees and sheltered by mature hedgerows, with stunning, far-reaching views of our organic meadows and the surrounding valleys. Under the trees, native wildflowers such as cowslips, oxeye daisies, lady’s bedstraw and scabious provide a habitat for a variety of bees and wildlife.

Visitors to our burial ground are welcome to come and go as they please all year round – there are no restrictions. The paths through the woodland create a lovely place for a peaceful stroll or you can walk the byways which converge at the entrance to the burial ground. The woodland sits on the corner of several ancient byways, and is thought to overlook the site of a Roman villa, so it has been a site of importance for scores of people over millennia, and as a natural burial ground, will continue to be so.

Sheepdrove is a model of responsible farming. Sustained by wind and solar, the 2,500 acre organic working farm produces both livestock and arable crops, while providing wildflower meadows, woodlands, and wetlands to encourage diversity of wildlife . Ongoing conservation projects ensure that many threatened species call it home including barn owls, natterer and serotine bats, and several rare butterflies and bees.

The site allows both full burial and ashes interment in an undisturbed final resting place.

Everyone is welcome here at Sheepdrove; we embrace all faiths and no faith, any type of ceremony or no ceremony – the choice is yours. Should you require catering, our stunning Eco-Conference Centre can accommodate any number of guests up to 150 and is the perfect place to celebrate a life.
