Werneth Memorial Park, Manchester

Welcome to Werneth Memorial Park
A Natural Haven for Reflection and Remembrance

Nestled at the foot of Werneth Low in Romiley, Werneth Memorial Park offers a peaceful and beautiful setting for honoring loved ones. Easily accessible from Stockport, Thameside, Manchester, and Derbyshire, our park provides a tranquil space for reflection and remembrance.

A Family-Owned Sanctuary
Werneth Memorial Park is privately owned by the Sharples family—Elaine, Luke, Megan, and Sophie—who have and still do live and work in Stockport, Thameside, Cheshire East and High Peak communities. Their lifelong commitment to the area reflects in the care and dedication put into maintaining this special place.

Embracing Natural Burial
As interest in natural burial grounds grows, we offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional funerals. Our natural burial minimizes environmental impact, creating habitats that support local wildlife and preserve existing flora and fauna. The park is set within acres of native grassland, woodland, and trees native to Werneth Low, all carefully managed to protect and nurture the local ecosystem.

A Tranquil Space for Reflection
Our goal is to provide families and friends with a serene environment to remember loved ones. The park features minimal mowing—walkways are maintained, and areas around tablets are kept clear. During certain times of the year, we allow the grass to grow longer to support wildlife, ensuring the park remains a vibrant habitat.

Eco-Friendly Practices
All coffins and ashes containers are made from natural materials and are accredited to the relevant authorities. The stone tablets are sourced locally from a quarry and must be purchased, approved, and placed by Werneth Memorial Park. To maintain the natural aesthetic all tablets are laid flat.  All our graves are dug by hand by local gravediggers, Mason Sharp and Phil Kean who have worked their whole lives in the industry and have been personal family friends of the Sharples for five generations.

Park Guidelines

  • No fences, glass, ceramics, soft toys, balloons, or similar items are not permitted and will be removed if found.
  • The park is a place of respect and tranquility, dedicated to preserving its natural beauty.
  • Family and friends are welcome to bring flowers into the park on the day of interment/scattering.  Please note that flowers will be removed within 7 days or sooner if they begin to deteriorate.
