List of Natural Burial Grounds
Wild Meadow Eco Cemetery, Kinghorn
Wild Meadow Eco Cemetery is proud to be the first community-owned natural burial ground in Fife. Set beside the shores of Kinghorn Loch, our cemetery offers a peaceful place to remember loved ones, while also providing a space where nature can thrive. Formerly the site of a leather tannery, the land came into community ownership in 2015 and has since been carefully managed to encourage a wide variety of plant and insect species to establish themselves, all without the use of pesticides. Intentionally wild in character, the landscape features wildflowers, wooded areas, and shrubs, and is gently maintained. Paths are kept clear and accessible, and grave markers are tended for a limited period following burial. Over time, native vegetation is encouraged to grow naturally, allowing memorials to blend harmoniously into the landscape. We warmly encourage families to visit our peaceful site to ensure it feels like the right place to lay their loved one to rest. The cemetery is open to all, with no need to arrange an appointment beforehand. As the site is informal, visitors are welcome to wander at their own pace. Please note that some paths remain unsurfaced and may become muddy in wet weather. We recommend wearing sturdy footwear and moving around the cemetery with care. The cemetery welcomes people of all faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds from Fife and the surrounding area.
