Befriending Network
A charity started by the NDC to help improve the quality of life for people living at home who have been diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Trained volunteers offer practical and emotional support through regular visits.

Cashel: The Forest for a Thousand Years A charity committed to regenerating Scottish Native Woodland. "We fund this by way of tree dedications. Those who are dedicating a tree to a loved one who has passed away may come to the forest, plant the tree themselves, and have a small ceremony. Ashes may also be scattered or planted into the roots of the tree." Sponsor a tree.

DIPEx: Personal experiences of health and illness. Interviews with everyday people about their own experiences of serious illness and health-related mattersfor patients, carers, and health professionals. The living with dying section contains 41 interviews.

Environments of Memory: New rituals of mourning in the UK. Collaborative project between the University of Sheffield & London Metropolitan University: "What is happening to the growing volume of human ashes now removed from crematoria by the families and friends of the deceased? We would like to talk to people who have taken the cremated remains of a relative or friend away from a crematorium to discuss what they chose to do with the ashes. If you are a death care professional and would like to share your experiences with us, please get in touch. All information will be treated in strictest confidence. If you live in Nottingham, Sunderland or Glasgow, please call David Prendergast on 0114 222 6480. If you live in Barking & Dagenham, please contact Leonie Kellaher on 0207 753 5038."

Health Creation "The integration of complementary, alternative and self-help approaches to treatment. Based on the experience of Integrated Medicine Consultant, Dr Rosy Daniel, former medical director of the Bristol Cancer Help Centre, the Cancer Lifeline Kit may be able to help you make treatment decisions and form self-help strategies. Manchester Area Bereavement Forum: Supporting people experiencing loss and those involved in bereavement work.

Royal Forestry Society: "Furthering the appreciation, understanding and knowledge of trees, woods and forests." On the website you can find sections on Management, Woodland Wildlife, etc, plus an article about woodland burial grounds.

Where Two Worlds Meet: Workshops on Letting Go into Living and Dying with Archa Kate Robinson RGN ONC OHMT. "Transforming the cultural taboos around death and dying. Supporting people in seeing that death is not the enemy but an integral part of life and the more we are able to face and be present with our own death the more we are able to be present at another's, and live, love and truly celebrate our lives now."
