List of Natural Burial Grounds
Apperknowle Natural Burial Ground, Derbyshire
A beautiful local viewpoint. From the burial ground you have extensive views over the Drone valley and onwards towards the eastern parts of the Peak District. About 8 acres in size, the lower part of the burial ground is mature woodland. Opening in Autumn 2021, it has been designed to be an accessible space for all users and there are firm paths throughout. There’s an open-sided traditional oak framed shelter on site which can be used for ceremonies. The available options here are plots where you can have a tree, shrub or a wildflower mix planted and there is an orchard area with fruit trees. You can also have a stone plaque to mark the grave.
