St Neots, Cambridge, Kingfisher Independent Funeral Services

Kingfisher Independent Funeral Services was established in October 2010 to provide a truly personal funeral experience for the people of St Neots, Cambridgeshire and the surrounding areas. We experienced huge growth in our first three years, and in May 2014 we opened our second branch in Huntingdon. The towns were chosen because the existing businesses are all part of larger chains and therefore highly influenced by the demands of shareholders. Our mission statement is “To work with our clients to arrange the most satisfying funeral possible. To inform clients of all options available, and to have an open mind to all suggestions.”

We occupy the Gate Lodge at the entrance to St Neots Town Cemetery, and the old (converted!) stables of Lawrence Court off Princes Street in Huntingdon, which are the ideal locations to provide peaceful places to make the necessary arrangements and to visit loved ones in our chapels of rest. We always offer the option of visiting clients in their own homes if they prefer.

We provide a facility for holding funeral ceremonies at both of our premises, and these are well-used for small funerals, in particular those requiring little or no religious content. The ceremony room at Gate Lodge can seat 35 mourners, and the room at Princes Street can seat 25. We frequently arrange funerals without the need for vehicles, which not only assists the bereaved financially, but also has a strong eco-friendly benefit. We secured planning permission to be able to use Gate Lodge for funeral receptions, meaning that we can offer clients the option of a complete funeral in one place.

We encourage bereaved people to take a role and become involved in making the funeral arrangements, and we are very happy to provide any ‘part’ of what might traditionally be called a ‘package’ – we promise no hard sell, ever. We guarantee a speedy response to enquiries via the telephone, e-mail, our website, or in person at our premises.

Delivering excellent customer service is at the heart of everything we do. Because we are only a small business, we can provide an exceptionally personal service, with one point of contact for every client. We know instantly what each client has told us, and at what stage we are in any arrangement. The ability to follow everything through in detail is much appreciated by clients, and we are unique in guaranteeing that the same person arranging the funeral will conduct it on the day, providing continuity and peace-of-mind to the bereaved. With just four members of full-time staff, Andrew Hickson, Nicola Jarmaine, Scott Hardiman and Philip Reynolds, who are all fully-qualified funeral directors, it is highly likely you will meet all us of during the time you need to engage our services.

Roxie, our young black labrador, is often at Gate Lodge, and is probably our most popular member of staff. Her role as a bereavement dog who will welcome visitors to see her at any time is developing all the time. We believe very strongly in the therapeutic qualities of dogs, but will always ask you if you like them, and if you don’t, she will be kept out of the way without a problem.

We are recommended by The Natural Death Centre and on The Best of St Neots as trusted and totally independent Funeral Directors. In February 2015 we won the coveted title of 'best loved funeral directors in the UK'.
