The People's Awards for the Best Natural Burial Ground 2019 and 2020
and runner up in 2022 and 2023
Located in a tranquil setting in the heart of Essex, between Chelmsford and Great Dunmow, formally farmland, our 34 acre site consists of a variety of grasses, trees and wildflowers, creating the perfect space for natural or green burials. Whether it is in our Bluebell Wood, among the Spring Flowers, near the Waters Edge or in the Wildflower Meadow. We offer burial and ash interment plots as well as being able to hold funerals, services and wakes here. With state of the art fixtures and equipment, to catering facilities, we are able to offer a variety of options. At Old Park Meadow there are no time constraints and no fixed rules or formats. We are open to people of all faiths and beliefs. We are doing everything we can to make sure that the environment we are creating is in keeping with local flora and fauna. In consulting extensively with the Essex Wildlife Trust, the Woodland Trust and the RSPB we want to provide an area that is both amenable to local wildlife and actively supports it. We hope that continuing in this manner will lead to a sustainable eco-system that can thrive here for generations, ensuring a profound environmental legacy for anyone buried or interred here. At Old Park Meadow we treat every passing with the delicate care and attention it deserves. Because losing a loved one is always so difficult, we take it upon ourselves to make sure that everything you need is provided for, and you can be sure that every ceremony will be of the highest standard. We understand that nothing should be left to chance on such an important day, so our experienced staff will always be on hand to guide you through the process. For us, ensuring everyone can choose a sustainable and beautiful burial is more important than anything, regardless of where you come from. Unlike many other natural burial grounds who may add hundreds of pounds, we do not charge anything extra if you do not reside in the local area. We have a state of the art music, webcast and visual tribute system, allowing you to tailor the service that you want. If you would like to eat at Old Park Lodge, we have a selection of menus for you to choose from such as Afternoon Teas, Finger Buffets of perhaps you have a favourite dish. If you have any dietary requirements, such as gluten free, vegetarian or vegan, this can also be catered for. While of course our funerals will always take priority, we want to take the opportunity to make Old Park Lodge available for a range of other activities for the community. The main hall is an ideal location for yoga classes, choir practices or art sessions, as it provides a peaceful escape from the outside world. We also hold fundraising events for Farleigh and St Clare Hospices and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance. We hold open Coffee Mornings here every Wednesday between 10am and 12 noon, so why not take the opportunity to pop in and see what we’re all about and have a chat. We have several Memorial Options available here at Old Park Meadow, wooden grave markers, engraved leaves on our copper tree, book of remembrance, engraved slate plaques, memorial plaques for benches, trees and wildlife boxes. Opening Hours: Visitors to Old Park Meadow are welcome any time as there is access via the pedestrian gate if the office and main car park are closed. The office is open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
